Dear Friends,

President Carter is doing the sensible thing, that other world leaders who lack courage and independence should be doing -- talking to Hamas. For this he is being villified by Israel to the point that the Shin Bet, Israel's secret police, has refused to provide security for the former US president while at the same time Israeli leaders incite against him.

On April 11, I participated in a panel in Washington, sponsored by the Middle East Policy Council on the question "Hamas and the Two-State Solution: Villain, Victim or Missing Ingredient?"
